Elmina Cass v James P. Cass (Journal 11 p168 - 14 June 1881; p291 - 24 Dec 1881; Roll 36)
By Pamela Pattison Lash (updated 2010)
The couple was married on 30 Jul 1877 (no location). James had been absent for three or more years. The court told Elmina that her suit was not properly filed and it was dismissed. She refiled and received her divorce. From The Bryan Press, 8 Dec 1881 p5 c3, the court granted a divorce decree to Elmina. According to Roll 36 case number 847 - Dec 1880 of the Williams County, Ohio Civil and Criminal Court records, Elmina sued William Stambaugh, administrator of the will of Elizabeth Shinabarger, deceased, who owed Elmina some money. In the 1850 and 1870 Madison Twp, Williams Co, OH federal census there is an Almina Green (1850 with husband Horrace and son George and 1870 by herself) living next door to an Elizabeth Shinabarger. By the 1880 Madison Twp, Williams Co, OH federal census Almina Green is a widow, living alone. It is possible that this Almina Green could be the Elmina Cass of the divorce detailing but further research needs to be done.
