The couple was married on 27 May 1870 in Dowagiac, Cass Co, MI. Note the marriage record for that county stated the marriage took place on 12 May 1870.  By the 1880 Stryker, Springfield Twp federal census, p665B, the Guyman family was listed as John 48 FR grocer, Mary 33 OH, Marcus 21 OH, Mary 19 OH, John 17 OH, with an Albert Guyman 13 OH living nearby in the home of Frederic Janney.  John, son of Christian Gaiman and Mary Gearig, was born in Estoben, Alsace-Lorraine, France c1830 and immigrated to the US in1850; he was married to Lucinda Krontz c1855, who died on 12 Apr 1868 @ 35Y 6M 5D and was buried in the Pettisville Cemetery, Fulton Co, OH, along with several of their six children. Lucinda was the daughter of Henry and Catherine Hay Knrontz of Clinton, Fulton Co, OH.

John, a Mennonite, paid a substitute for Civil War service c1863 as it was against his religion to take active part in war. In May 1868 he married Emmeline Shaffer Gaiman, widow of Joseph Gaiman; John supposedly obtained a divorce from her while in the state of Illinois on 1 Apr 1870.  From the 1870 Penn, Cass Co, MI federal census p147A, the Guyman family was enumerated as John 37 FR dry goods merchant, Mary 23 OH, Marcus 12 OH, Mary 10 OH, and John 8 OH.

Mary Emmeline Lutes was born in Nov1847 in OH and was the daughter of John and Christine Lutes. In the 1850 German Twp, Fulton Co, OH federal census p357B, the Lutes family was listed as John 35 PA, Christina 33 PA, Sarah 14 OH, Jacob 11 OH, Elizabeth 9 OH, Nancy 5 OH, and Mary 3 OH.

Mary stated in court that they had lived in Wms Co for the last six years.  John was a habitual drunk.  He owned in fee simple real estate in Stryker valued at $2500.  She wanted a divorce and alimony, which she obtained.  It is believed that John married a fourth time but the details of that marriage are unknown. On 3 Aug 1886 John died at the Toledo Insane Asylum; John Guyman's obituary in the Bryan Press, 5 Aug 1886, told that he owned a grocery and saloon in Stryker for a number of years and "was brought from Columbus to Stryker for funeral and was taken to Pettisville Lutheran Cem for burial where he has a wife and brother buried."

Mary and her parents moved to Nebraska where she taught school during the winter of 1881-1882 in her father’s home at Grand Rapids, Holt Co, NE.  On 22 Mar 1882 Mary Lutes Guyman married John Sullivan in Holt Co, NE.  In 1900 Mary and John Sullivan lived in Ainsworth, Brown Co, NE; John Sullivan, a farmer, was born in Feb 1842 in MI; the couple did not have any children. By 1910 they had moved to 420 Sycamore St, Santa Anna, CA, but by 1920 they lived at 286 First St, La Grange, Cass Co, MI.  John Sullivan was deceased by 1930 but Mary lived in Cassopolis, Cass Co, MI.
