Divorce Action in Williams County, Ohio - Young

George Young v Etna Young (Journal 10 p360 - 21 Feb 1880; Roll 33 case number 503 - Feb 1880)

By Pamela Pattison Lash (updated 2010)

The couple was married in Petersburgh, Monroe Co, MI on 16 Feb 1876 at George's father's home.  George stated that on 10 Jan 1877 Etna went with Elbridge Whitmore to Abilenne, Kansas and committed adultery; she had met him in Toledo, Lucas Co, OH.  She told him by letter that Elbridge had married her and asked him if he would obtain a divorce for both of them.  He brought witnesses, Orlando Bratton and Adolph Sullin, to testify that George and Etna had lived together for ten months to a year as man and wife.  A legal notice appeared in the "Fountain City Argus".   Elbridge G. Whitmore was a CW vet serving as a corporal from 1861-1865.  In 1890 he lived in Toledo, Lucas Co, OH.
