John M. Chaney was born in Richland Co, OH and moved to Seneca Co, OH where he married Polly Lott. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Williams Co, OH. John was a shoemake and plied his trade here for 2 years and then moved to a farm. Six of the 15 children were living by 1920. 4
Johny Chaney was an early settler to Hopewell Twp c1824. He and Charles Chaney had a lease on Sec 16 of Hopewell Center in Seneca Co, OH; these two and their families were probably the first settlers of Hopewell Twp, Seneca Co, OH along with Jacob Ruie or Ruse. The Chaneys helped to build the first township school house.8

Charles W. went to Sandusky Co, OH where he farmed for 7 years and came back to Wms Co where he married Clara Gunyan, 23 Aug 1885. She was educated in Montpelier. They lived for three years on the Chaney farm and then moved into Montpelier where they lived for one year and then they rented a farm where they lived for five years. They then bought a farm of 40 acres where they lived as of 1920. They were members of Mount Zion English Lutheran Church and he was a member of the board of trustees plus a member of Montpelier Lodge 547, Free and Accepted Masons and Knights of Pythias Lodge 502. He was a Democrat but has voted of late with Republicans. 4

He was a retied carpenter @70Y upon his death in the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. He lived at the Smith Hotel in Montpelier.15
