The Williams County Genealogical Society met on Monday, May 9, 2011at the Harmon Room of the West Annex to the Bryan Public Library. Rev. Dale Kern was the guest speaker for the evening. He portrayed Adam Detzer, who was a Circuit Rider Preacher for the German Lutheran Church in northwestern Ohio. Adam Detzer was born in Weidenberg, Oberfranken, Bavaria in 1817. He was caught up with the missionary zeal under the leadership of William Loehe and went with him to America. Beginning in 1845, Rev. Detzer did establish congregations in Fulton, Williams, Henry and Defiance Counties. He married Charlotte Niedhardt in 1846 and over the years they had 12 children. In 1872 Detzer accepted a call to Des Plaines, Illinois and established more congregations in the greater Chicago area. Then he moved to Nebraska to start churches there and in Iowa. Many of the churches he started are still active today.
