Divorce Action in Williams County, Ohio - Alberts (Roll 44)

Mary Jane Jones Alberts v Julius Alberts (Journal 14 p50; Roll 44 Box 145 case number 1676 – 6 Oct 1886)

By Pamela Pattison Lash

The couple was married in Bryan, Pulaski Twp, Williams County, OH on 18 Nov 1884 (Marriage V5 #544) as Jane Jones and Julle Albert. Mary Jane stated that Julius was guilty of gross neglect for more than one year. He was a strong, able-bodied man who was in constant receipt of wages sufficient to support her, but he was a drunk.  She stated that she was compelled to live on her own exertions. Mary Jane wanted a divorce and reasonable alimony, both of which she received.

I have searched for some other reference to this couple, but have found nothing so far.

WCGS Meeting - March 2011 and Upcoming April Lock-In

WCGS VP Pat Goebel sent this info to be posted on my blog - thanks, Pat for the write-up!

The March meeting of the Williams County Genealogical Society was held at the Recorders Office in the Bryan Courthouse. Patsy Mealer, Williams County Recorder, greeted the members and explained her task as the County Recorder, which is to keep and maintain accurate land records that are current, legible, and easily accessible. Scanned copies of deed records start in 1824 and go up to 1904; these are on their computers.  The originals have been stored. After that date, you can find the original deeds and mortgages in books filed in the office. An index can be found online at their website starting with October 1999 to current date. These invaluable records are utilized by the general public, attorneys, historians, genealogists and land title examiners. Patsy and Jan Keller, Chief Deputy Recorder, then helped the members research the records looking to find where their ancestors might have lived in Williams County.

The next WCGS meeting will be on Friday, April 8, 2011. A Lock-In will be held at the Bryan Public Library, West Annex from 4-8:30pm.  Admission is by reservation only.  Call Jane Kelly at 419.636.6734 to make your reservations.  Cost will be $3 for members and $5 for non-members to help with the cost of pizza.  Bring your own beverage, please. 4H Family Search Project members are invited as guests of the society. Just bring your own beverage and please let us know if you are coming.

REMINDER: If you have an item for “Trash or Treasure” program in June and need a picture taken, please bring the item with you to the meeting, if you have registered to attend the lock in. Someone will be available to take the picture.  Forms for the program will also be available. If you are not registered for the lock in, please contact Donna Myers to make other arrangements.

The purpose of WCGS is the preservation of county records and family research.  Monthly meetings are held on the second Monday of each month, excluding July and August, in the conference room of the West Annex of the Bryan Public Library.
