WCGS Co-VP Pat Goebel has a report on the last meeting and info on the upcoming event - here's what she has to relate:
General Robert E. Lee, portrayed by Chuck Eberle, arrived at the Williams County Genealogical Society’s meeting, March 11, 2013 to enlighten the members with more tales about the South and the Civil War, from the southern point of view. He reminded them about how the war was about money, not slavery. The North didn’t want to give up all the money they were receiving from the wealthy southerners, if they succeeded. So President Lincoln asked Lee to head an army of volunteers to invade the South. Lee refused to invade his home area, Virginia, and left the Union army. General Lee eventually joined the South. The rest is history. Thank you to Bill Carey for filling in for the General until his arrival.
April 8, 2013 meeting will be at the West Annex of the Bryan Public Library, Bryan, OH at 6:30 pm. The Co-Vice Presidents, Pat Goebel and Mary Alice Roth, will be speaking on “Showcasing your Genealogy-Past and Present” through scrapbooking. Each one has taken a totally different approach to tracing and showcasing their ancestor’s history. If you have a scrapbook you would like to share, bring it along. Time will be allowed for you to share.
Reminder: Forms for your Trash or Treasure items can be picked up at the West Annex of the library. Pictures and forms need to be turned in by the April 8 meeting or any time before by leaving them with Jane Kelly at the West Annex.
The purpose of WCGS is the preservation of county records and family research. Monthly meetings are held on the second Monday of each month, excluding July and August, at 6:30pm, in the conference room of the West Annex of the Bryan Public Library. The public is invited for all the meetings.
