Additional Info on Shiffler - Radabaugh

Shiffler Family of Williams Co, OH

I received an email from a kind lady who has some info on Shiffler – Radabaugh and other people from Williams Co plus a Bible.  Here’s what she had to say:
georgie waddell <snowflake-midnight@att.net>

In looking on line I came across your site. My cousin found a Bible with the following information in it. Looking for the family that belongs to Bible, this is what I know:
 Sarah Christina Shiffler b 5 Feb 1867 d 28 Jun 1939
                         m Marion Elmer Radabaugh b 17 Apr 1864 d 29 May 1933
m Feb 7, 1889 Pulaski, Ohio by W.A. From births and deaths in Bible:
Charles William Radabaugh b 13 Oct 1890 d 5 Jul 1965 Paradise, Butte Co Ca
Nevin E. Radabaugh        b 16 Jan 1895 d 6 Apr 1952 (Palm Sunday)
Meta Neola Radabaugh/Brown b 21 Dec 1900 d 11 Jan 1975 at Madera, Ca.
Chrisian Cyrus Radabaugh b 2 Sept 1904 d3 Jan 1905 age 4 months 1 day
Ruth Lucile Radabaugh     b 9 Oct 1907 no death record on her
Marion Elmer Radabaugh b 17 Apr 1864 d 29 May 1933
wife Sarah Christina Shiffler b 5 Feb 1867 d 28 Jun 1939

This Bible was found in the deceased home of Pauline McMana of Chico in Chico Mobil Country Club. She was an artist and real estate agent. My cousin had a lady in Chico take death certificate of Charles William Radabaugh to research data and does not have access to it. Follow-up from his research in Madera, Ca said they didn't know anything about this family Bible. With the data given it seems we should be able to locate a descendant, my cousin is going to donate this Bible to Jehovah Witness archives in New York if we don't locate family interest and proof of. I would like to see it get back to family. I believe Sarah is from Shiffler family that is in your cemetery records. I am going to Butte Co records and look up the death certificate info on Charles William Radabaugh and see if any children signed for his death that can lead us in another direction. Will forward that info on to you later today.

Forgot to mention one more fact: This record came out of a Bible: The Latest Pictorial FAMILY BIBLE, containing the OLD and NEW TESTAMENTS together with Apocrypha, Concordance, and Psalms of David In Metre, translated out of the original tongues, and with the former translations diligently compared and revised to which are appended a Comprehensive Bible Dictionary. O.A.Browning and Company Toledo, O., and London, Ontario 1875 published it. The reason I mention this is towards the back of the Bible is a section written by a Rev. Dr. Cox "Summary of Biblical Antiquities describing the Manners and Customs of the Israelites" Religion, domestic life, distribution of time, pursuit and occupation, tabernacle in the wilderness, &c., &c. (entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1875, by A. J. HOLMAN & Co., in the office of the librarian of Congress, at Washington.

I have never seen a Bible of this extent, what is interesting is a full page loose insert of the death of a Clement R. Cox b 27 Dec 1900 in Montpelier, Ohio died 5 Aug 1919 age 18y 7mo 8d. He died while repairing telephone wires in the cellar of the house now occupied by Nelson Gould on Broad St. Leaves two brothers, Dewey and John, two sisters, Clela his twin and Marjory all at home with the parents also three grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Newton Boucher of Bryan, Ohio and Mr. Enoch Cox of Superior Twp., beside a host of other relatives and friends.

It does not give who his parent’s names were and I wondered if he is associated with this Rev. Dr. Cox. He was buried at Fountain Grove Cem. at Bryan, Ohio. Wondering if this family could somehow be related to above Bible entries of Radabaugh family.

Later on I received this info from Georgie:

I found additional information on this line yesterday at the LDS library. From a census extraction it listed Marion Elmer Radabaugh buried Madera, Madera Co Calif. It had his wife spelling of name as Shiffer, probably because the family down the line didn't know how to spell the pronunciation and it gave her first name as Jennie which I think was a nickname or misunderstanding as they had her birth year correct. Another child of theirs Metta Neola Radabaugh-Brown is suppose to be buried there died 11 Jan 1975. I'm thinking if I contact the local newspapers at that time they may have some on line copies of an obituary on them. When another person tried to contact family in the area they said they knew nothing about this line. I'm thinking someone is still lining in the area that belongs to this tree. I will still keep doing my best to search them out, as Madera is four hours drive from me and too far to go researching for a tree that is not mine. Also, I pulled death certificate on Charles William Radabaugh d 5 Jul 1965 Paradise Butte Co Ca. which is a half hour drive from me and all it had was the name of his wife as: Clara S. Radabaugh. Address of informant as 5390 Scottwood Road Paradise, Calif burial 8 Jul 1965 Paradise Cemetery funeral home Rose Chapel, Inc. died of Coronary Arterio Sclerosis with Stenosis (heart).

Additional Info on Mordecai Cameron

Recently a Cameron researcher sent me a few bits of additional information on an early settler named Mordecai Cameron.  I've added this comment on the original post but there is also a scanned image which I'm placing here.  Thanks so much to Virgil Cameron.

This is what Virgil emailed:

Starting with Mordecai's son John Cameron.  Although several sites list him as John H. Cameron, his real name was John Eagan Cameron. I am attaching a photo of his Baptismal Record that I photographed from the actual document at the Donegal Presbyterian Church in PA. Mordecai also had a daughter Harriet christened at the same church in 1811.  Mordecai stayed close to his half brother Charles early on but eventually moved West THROUGH Virginia (now West Virginia) where Samuel Cameron was born in Kingwood, Preston Co.

I researched tax records and census records to prove residency of these early years.

Other Items of note:
Charles (Mordecai's half brother) was the father of Simon Cameron, Secretary of War for Lincoln. (Although Simon was raised by foster parents)

Simon (Mordecai's father) had a revolutionary war record of being fined for not marching when called. His case was dismissed because he said: "I speak no English, only Gaelic and my wife recently died leaving me 4 small children" and he agreed to march when next called.
