The Baldwin Brothers - Watch for Tiny Clues and Spellings in the Census Records

Francis B Baldwin and his brother, Ambrose, both joined Co C 111th OVI - Francis returned home and lived a long life in Williams Co, OH, but Ambrose died in battle.  Finding the Baldwin brothers was a bit difficult as the 1850 and 1860 Brady Twp federal census records listed the family name as Boldwin so it took a few different searches to find them.  Then I encountered two different locations for Francis' marriage - one in Huron Co and the other in Fulton Co, OH (contiguous county with Williams).  My advice - keep plugging away; don't give up!!  Also look for clues to give you a sense of what life was like for the people - 1874 was a significant year for the Baldwins.

Here's what I found:

First of all this is the pension record where Ambrose and Francis' mother, Annie E Baldwin, applied for pension based on Ambrose's CW service.  Note the date as 1874.

Next here's the pension record for Francis - first as an invalid in 1874 and later for Harriet as his widow in 1917; 1874 was the year for both Francis's mother to apply for brother Ambrose's CW pension and for Francis to apply for his own CW service.
