Marriage and Divorce Tangles - Haskins and Reinhart/Rinehart

By Pamela Pattison Lash (updated 21 May 2013)

The Edgerton Earth Edgerton, Williams County, Ohio, Friday, July 21, 1916
Richard A. Haskins, who recently was arrested on a charge of assault with intent to kill his wife, Malissa Haskins, filed a petition in common pleas court asking for divorce. The alleged assault occurred Sunday, July 2, and according to the petition filed by Mr. Haskins, his wife struck him with her fists and an iron stove lift. He asks for divorce because of alleged cruelty and neglect. Mr. and Mrs. Haskins were married at Toledo Jan. 1, 1906 - Pioneer Alliance.

This newspaper article doesn’t give any background on the couple but with some digging I found the marriage paths for each:
Malissa Reinhart Adams Limpert Haskins Haskins Guthrie
She was married at least five times, twice to Richard Haskins

Richard Haskins was married to
1. Mary C Bratton
2. Stella Kenney
3. Malissa Limpert, divorced

5. Elizabeth Fast

Malissa Rinehart Adams (her second marriage) married Fred Limpert 8 Aug 1890 in Steuben Co, IN and they had a daughter Pearl Limpert born 19 May 1891 in Williams Co, OH; Fred was the son of John Limpert and Elizabeth Stoneburner; there must have been a divorce sometime between 1891-1894 as Fred Limpert married Jeanette Ames in 1894, Hicksville, Defiance Co, OH; he died in 1944

Here is a puzzle – Malissa and Richard are enumerated in 1900 as husband and wife; they do get married in Lucas Co, OH in 1906; so were they not married in 1900? Married in 1900, divorced sometime between 1900 and 1906 and remarried in 1906??
Puzzle solved – the couple was married Steuben Co, IN on 26 Feb 1895 as Richard A Haskins and Malissa A Limpert
