By Pamela Pattison Lash (updated 2010)
The couple was married in Richland Co, OH on 18 Apr 1858. David, born 3 Feb 1820, Knox Co, OH, was the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Kerbe Zolman. The parents were natives of Frederick Co, MD. David had married Jane J. Stockdale, b 30 July 1817, Morrow Co, OH, daughter of Robert and Sarah E. Harper Stockdale, in Richland Co, OH on 10 Oct 1844. The couple had children William (1845), George Washington (1849), Robert Martin (1850), and Mary Ann (1853). Jane died in Mt. Gilead, OH on 5 Mar 1853.
Lydia Culver, born 1814 in Easton, North Hampton, PA, the daughter of Jacob and Susannah Buss Culver, first married Michael Lime in Richland Co, OH on 30 Mar 1843. Michael was possibly the son of Michael and Elizabeth Lime of Richland Co. There was a marriage in that county for Michael Lime and Elizabeth Henry, 18 Jan 1849; whether Michael died or there was a divorce needs to be substantiated. David was listed in the 1860 Bellville, Jefferson Twp, Richland Co, OH as David 41 OH laborer, living with Jacob Zolman and family. He charged Lydia with being willfully absent for three years or more. He brought witnesses A S and David Litt. A legal notice appeared in the "New Press and Leader." David was granted a divorce.
He next married Lavina Arehart, on 24 Sept 1863 in Knox Co, OH. Lavina was born in PA on 1 Jan 1824. In the 1870 Etna Green, Kosciusko Co, IN federal census, p312, the family was listed as David Zolman 49 OH, Lavina 45 PA, Martha 7 OH, John 3 IN. They were recorded there again in 1880 as David 59 OH, Lavina 56 PA, Martha A 16 OH, and John M 14 IN. Lavina died in Etna Green, IN on 22 Apr 1904, but in the 1900 Middlebury, Knox Co, OH federal census, p11B, David, b Feb 1821 aged 79 OH lived with George Zolman, his son and family. David died in Etna Green, IN on 29 Aug 1901 @80Y 6M 16D.
