Divorce Action in Williams County, Ohio - Kriter

The couple was married in Camden, Hillsdale Co, MI on 2 Apr 1870.  John was a resident of York Twp, Steuben Co, IN at the time of the divorce proceedings.  In May and June of 1877 John was extremely cruel to Catherine.  He owned 40 acres in Steuben Co, IN valued at $600.  She had an interest in a small piece of land in Wms Co, OH as part of an inheritance from her parents.  She called the following witnesses to give evidence on her behalf: LD Hoover, Thomas Fetterhough, John Headley, and Charles Bates of York Twp, Steuben Co, IN.  She posted a legal notice in the "Bryan Press", 3 May 1877, p3. The divorce was granted.

Catherine was the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Delong Hoover.  She was born c1848 in Seneca Co, OH. According to the 1850 NW Twp, Wms Co, OH federal census p52, the Hoovers were enumerated as Jacob 45 OH, Elizabeth 38 OH, Matilda 6 OH, Jacob 5 OH, Anna 3 OH, and Catharine 2 OH. Living next door were Thomas J. Fetterhoof and his family; also a Charles Headley and family lived closeby. In 1864 Mrs. Hoover owned 78 acres in Sec 27 of NW Twp.  In 1874 this land was listed as that of Jacob Hoover, who had died before Dec 1863 when his estate (#800) was probated.

Catherine married William Henry Forrester and she died in 1927 in Nevada Mills, Steuben Co, IN.  Reportedly Catherine and William had five sons, Verne, William, Roscoe, Elsworth, and George.  Sometime prior to 1910 the couple divorced.
