There
was a continuance and then a divorce was granted based on John's abusive
behavior. On 31 Jan 1888 he hit
Minerva and forced her from their residence. Their daughter Anna M. Cook is past the age of
majority. Later there was a change
made in the amount of alimony he had to pay.

Cook, according to his death record, was a widower in 1904, born in Washington
Co, PA; died in West Unity, Brady Twp of a heart condition; he was buried
beside his young daughter, Olive, and next to his parents. Note he was also buried near Sharpless
– Oliver, Geo H, Mary H(Hazen), and Jonathan Sharpless. This Jonathan Sharpless was the brother
of Minerva W Sharpless Cook.

Sometime between 1888 and 1900 Minerva Cook and her daughter
Anna M moved back to Knox Co, OH. Note Minerva is identified in the 1900
census as a widow, but John W Cook is still alive. This in my opinion is why looking at the divorce records is
vital in understanding the family dynamics.
